Immigration and Expat services

The Mauritius Expat Desk is the first point of contact for non-Mauritian citizensand expat residents, as well as local and international executives, their families and their companies within Mauritius.

As a platform for all expat-relevant activities and topics, we bundle information, networks and institutions such as authorities and offices, international schools, expat networks, international associations and business development agencies. Living in Mauritius

There are various schemes granting non-Citizens the right to reside in Mauritius, under the following types of permits:

  • Residence Permits
  • As a Dependent
  • A spouse and recognised children of a main applicant (satisfying certain other criteria) are usually granted residence permits

A Dependent will not be allowed to work in Mauritius, and needs to apply for an appropriate Occupation Permit for any gainful occupation.

Urmila Boolell SC

Group Head & Head of Chambers

 

Urmila Boolell is the most senior woman at the Mauritian Bar and was the first of the two women in Mauritius to ever be appointed Senior Counsel. She was elected to the Presidency of the Mauritian Bar Council in January 2013. Urmila read Law at the University of Reading where she graduated with an LLB (Hons). She was called to the Bar in the UK at the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in July 1985, at the age of twenty one. She was called to the Mauritian Bar in September 1985, and has been in active practice in Mauritius ever since.

Willem Van Rensburg

Head of Operations at Chambers of Urmila Boolell SC

 

Willem has gathered vast experience exceeding 15 years as Head of his own law firm based in South Africa. Willem is a qualified attorney, notary and conveyancer in South Africa, and holds a degree in Commercial Law as well as LLB from the University of Pretoria. Willem is currently working towards completion of a Masters Degree in International Business Law at Middlesex University, Mauritius campus in substantiating his expertise in commercial law and extensive knowledge of property law.

Nikhil Boolell

Nikhil is an alumnus of the United World College of the Atlantic where he completed boarding school. He read law at University of Exeter in England; and at Université de Rennes 1 in France where he obtained an LLB (Hons) in European law. During that time, he attended the summer programme in law at China University of Politics in Law and also worked at the Beijing head office of Yingke International Law Firm.

Hurshit is a Barrister-at-law at Urmila Boolell SC Chambers. He graduated from Middlesex University with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) and completed the Bar Professional Training Course at the University of West England Bristol, UK.

Cedric joined the Chambers of Urmila Boolell, SC in 2019 as Content Editor, also providing valuable legal research and input on both domestic and international legislation in an array of matters in support to Barristers.

DR. Oktavia Maria Weidmann

 

Oktavia is admitted to the German bar and as a foreign lawyer in Mauritius. She has significant experience in the field of taxation of derivatives and investment funds.

Anuja Ghoorah

Anuja Ghoorah is a Barrister at Law at the Chambers of Urmila BoolelI, SC. She holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of Mauritius and a Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Law (Leeds). She completed her Bar Professional Training Course at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Faarzaad Soreefan

Faarzaad is a Barrister at the Chambers of Urmila Boolell SC. He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Central Lancashire and completed his Bar Professional Training Course at Northumbria University, Newcastle Upon Tyne. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales at the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in November 2018 and to the Bar of the Republic of Mauritius in January 2020.

Vandana Boolell

Vandana manages the Compliance and Training Operations for Temple Group.

She initially joined at the Group level to implement business development strategy, corporate social responsibility initiatives, and aligning international partnerships for the various entities of Temple Group.

Aditi Boolell

Lead Advisory at Temple Corporate Services

 

Reckoning several years of consulting and advisory experience, Aditi holds an LLB(Hons) degree from King’s College of London and joined the graduate programme at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Mauritius gaining exposure in audit, tax & legal services and with the global fund. She has acquired an expertise in immigration advisory work, assisting expatriates in moving to Mauritius, setting their own businesses, acquiring property in Mauritius, applying for work, residence, occupation, permanent residence permits or lodging citizenship applications.

Amiirah Casmally

Corporate and Administration in Corporate Support Services

 

Amiirah holds a diploma in Business administration through ABE in the UK and is currently studying towards her ICSA. She has gained hands on experience in day-to-day client administration and compliance from her previous position within one of the big management companies from 2012 to 2014.

Ucha reckons over two decades of professional experience in banking and financial services, and oversees the fiduciary duties of money laundering reporting as well as regulatory compliance and good governance of the management company and its client entities.

Esmarie Swanepoel

Lead Advisory: Expat & Immigration (Corporate Support Services)

 

Esmarie Swanepoel joined Temple Group as Practice Manager – Chambers of Urmila Boolell, SC in 2016, and has since forged a keen focus on the growth and evolution of Temple Publications as a first of its kind print and digital publishing house in Mauritius alongside her role as Head of Expat & Immigration (Corporate Support Services) in driving foreign investment, relocation and economic development in Mauritius.

Sweeta Ayoob

Group Administration Manager

 

Sweeta initially joined Temple Group as Administrative Secretary in 2009. During her 11 years at Temple Group, Sweeta has had vast exposure to, and developed a core understanding of the business activity of the Group. Sweeta was the Credit Controller of Temple Group for nearly 4 years before being appointed as General Administrative Manager in 2019, counting extensive experience in finance administration, accounting and general management.

Priya Tirbhowan-Boojhawon

Sales and Marketing Executive at Temple Publications

 

Priya Tirbhowan holds a BSc (Hons.) in Management with Law from the University of Technology, Mauritius and Certificate in Financial Services from Financial Services Institute. She joined Temple Publications in 2016 as Sales and Marketing Executive and assists the Operations and Business Development Manager in business development and strategic marketing activities.
