Secure family living at Kyalami Estate
Kyalami Estates was developed by Anglo American Properties in 1988, based on the concept of providing a safe and secure setting that combines modern lifestyle luxuries with quality of life. With this concept in mind, Kyalami Estates was among the first communities with 24-hour security and access control to be established in Johannesburg.
In addition to the beautiful homesteads, the estate offers easy access to a wide range of shopping, medical and educational facilities, while being enviably located central to Pretoria as well as Johannesburg’s east and western suburbs, with Sandton and Centurion in between.
According to Philip Coetzee, head of Marketing, Communication and Community on the Kyalami Estates Board of Trustees, the trustees are elected by the resident body, which includes a dedicated management team, who are also residents at the estate and therefore have a deeply vested interest in all aspects of estate life.
Kyalami Estates has set out to provide an appealing environment with extensively landscaped sidewalks and spacious and attractively laid out parklands with paved walkways, well located children’s play areas and picnic and braai areas.
In terms of lifestyle facilities and outdoor activities, Kyalami Estates is home to 16 parks and five dams. The tennis and squash courts are utilised through an online booking system. In addition, the clubhouse and sports area can be booked for a wide range of events via the estate’s central office. Many of the residents are also active members of the various estate sports clubs, including karate, cycling, running, squash, tennis and various activities for children.
In South Africa security remains the single biggest concern for most people, and in the case of Kyalami Estates, security was the primary reason for the estate’s establishment. The entire estate is surrounded by a brick wall and electric fencing, and is divided into multiple zones for accurate monitoring and faster response times in the event of a perimeter breach. The perimeter, along with having thermal CCTV cameras, is monitored 24/7 from a central control room.
