As well as these reintroduced mammals, which total well over 200 individual animals, there are 98 recorded bird species which include the resident pair of Verreaux’s eagles, 28 species of reptile, five fish species and a host of butterflies, bees and bugs. Residents that are adventurous can explore the beauty of the estate along the 16 kilometres of mountain bike trails or the seven kilometres of hiking paths while enjoying nature with plenty of fresh air. And for those that are less adventurous, the estate can be explored in the comfort of your vehicle. And if you want more, the 680 ha Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve is close by. With a very similar faunal and floral assemblage, the reserve is a bit more established, with more than 200 species of birds having been identified. And there are loads more hiking trails, where you may just spot a cautious zebra or a shy and elusive kudu.

The estate’s three dams, which are fed by natural springs, are a focus for wildlife and birds. And, of course, people. The homeowners’ association has created a spectacular view point to enjoy the vast open areas from high or to chill while having a relaxing sundowner as the sun slips away behind the koppie on which it over looks.

For those that love to spend more time in nature, the homeowners’ association has also created a wonderful campsite where you can pitch your tent under the open sky, braai some marshmallows and tell ghost stories. It’s a great place to watch birds, or just to relax with the family. Keen anglers can test their skill in the catch-and-release dams.

If you want fish to put on the braai, you’ll have to go to the nearby Meyersdal Mall. The Meyersdal Eco Estate has everything you would expect from a luxury residential community – tennis, squash and a well-appointed clubhouse with a bar spacious patio overlooking the nature area and magnificent function venue where you can celebrate all your milestones – birthdays, weddings and anniversaries – without having to leave the estate.
