About our journey
Zaheera’s journey into the world of patisserie began long before High Tea Tighty existed. As a child, she spent countless hours baking alongside her mother, learning the joy that comes from creating something delicious with love. Those early kitchen moments soon became a cherished family tradition, with Zaheera baking for birthdays, celebrations, and special gatherings. Friends and family quickly recognised her natural talent and often encouraged her to turn her gift into something bigger.
Accompanied by her Fine Art degree, her flair for creativity and refined taste began as a passion that gradually blossomed into a profession. Now a qualified patisserie chef, Zaheera refined her craft through professional training and earned an international Gold City & Guilds medal, a recognition of excellence in her field. Along the way, she has had the privilege of meeting and learning from internationally renowned chefs, including Cake Boss Buddy Valastro, celebrity chef Reza Mohamed, and the celebrated Hairy Bikers – experiences that further shaped her artistic approach to patisserie
The birth of High Tea Tighty
High Tea Tighty was established over 12 years ago, with its first charming boutique shop in Claremont, Cape Town. Inspired by the whimsical elegance of Alice in Wonderland, the original space embodied the spirit of imagination, beauty, and indulgence that still defines the brand today. From the beginning, Zaheera envisioned more than just a bakery. She wanted to create edible works of art — desserts that bring people together and transform everyday occasions into memorable experiences.
Craftsmanship and signature creations
Every High Tea Tighty creation begins with a vision. Zaheera is particularly renowned for her custom cake artistry, where every design is thoughtfully tailored to reflect the client’s story, event, or vision. The patisserie is known for its delicate, handcrafted cupcakes and is now elevated with sculpted cupcake bouquets resembling floral arrangements.
High Tea Tighty is famous for it’s richly decadent brownies made with carefully sourced imported ingredients, using Belgian chocolate, farm-fresh butter, and pure fresh cream. Each piece is meticulously crafted to achieve harmony between flavour, texture, and visual beauty.
