Since it was established in 1911, the Group has played a significant role in Mauritius’ economic development. Originally a major player in the country’s sugar cane industry, Medine has since transformed into a diversified group with five business units: Agriculture, Property, Leisure (including SPARC Sports Centre, Casela Nature Parks, Tamarina Golf, and Tamarina Golf & Spa Boutique Hotel), and Education.
To support its economic diversification strategy, Medine published a Master Plan in 2005. This laid the foundations for the coherent and harmonious development of the Group’s 10,000-hectare land bank in the West of the island. This ambition later evolved into the creation of a Smart City, in line with Mauritius’ wider economic development agenda, and then into the development of The West, a regional brand showcasing the West Coast’s unique lifestyle and assets.
Among Medine’s landmark developments are Tamarina, the first luxury residential estate in Mauritius, and Casela Nature Parks, which attracts 400,000 visitors annually and remains the leading leisure park in Mauritius.
Education is at the heart of Medine’s strategy. With Uniciti International Education Hub (UIEH), the Group is delivering on its ambition to help create a thriving knowledge economy in Mauritius and the wider Indian Ocean region. UIEH offers a comprehensive range of educational programmes ranging from pre-primary to tertiary and executive education.
Medine continues to invest significantly in its agriculture operations, focusing in particular on innovation and sustainability by embracing mechanisation and the use of new technologies. It has also diversified into fruit and vegetable cultivation and into value-added products.
Medine is listed on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM).
