Kingswood Golf Director Dean le Vieux had his team halved when, during the past few months, two members of the Kingswood Golf Club (KGC) team – Catherine Gericke and her right-hand, Taryn Booysens – vacated their posts for respective personal reasons.

Kayleigh King has now been appointed as Golf Coordinator, and Carla Felix-Pheiffer is the new Golf Admin Assistant. Dean and the ladies are supported by Assistant Golf Director Tim Steynberg – and this enables the team’s door in the Clubhouse / Community Centre to remain open whenever members and golfers need access to their services during business hours.

Ladies going beyond the call

‘Kayleigh started with us in July. As golf coordinator, being bombarded by members is part of the job, but she’s coping admirably, catching up daily and doing really well. Most importantly, she’s started building relationships with members and corporates.

‘This will stand her in good stead in the long run,’ says Dean, ‘as it promotes our goal of making golf at Kingswood a memorable experience and ultimately increases membership numbers.

‘Carla, in her quest to provide the best admin assistance from her post at the reception desk, is new to golf. But that doesn’t deter her: what she doesn’t know, she googles and familiarises herself with so that the next time she is questioned by members, she’s in the know.’

We encourage the members to interact with both ladies and get to know them. Both ladies are new to the club and want to grow with the membership. They have big shoes to fill, and are happy to put in the time and effort if given the chance.

Awaiting first-anniversary sign-ups

Membership numbers were sitting on just over 600 at the time of writing, so there’s not much movement to report on since our last edition. ‘Sign-ups invariably slow down in the middle of year, but our first-birthday membership renewals are happening as we speak.’ As the new membership year unfolds, we are excited to see the uptake from the current members as well as the new ones who are moving onto the estate or moving from other parts of South Africa.

The focus has always been the Kingswood experience, and we will continue to strive to give our members and their guests the best experience possible. We have learnt a lot from our first year of operating – there have been some rocky times, but we are moving in an upward direction and listening to what members are saying. We encourage the members to stay positive and keep talking to us. Without your feedback, we cannot improve on the imperfections.

2026 has been a busy year on the course, with a number of projects being completed. Again, we thank the membership for their patience and support. These projects take time and can look unsightly at times, but we look at the bigger picture and the future of the course.

Continuous improvements must be made to keep Kingswood on the list of must-play courses and a talking point for many years to come.
